A wonderful mother model

Iris
18" x 24"
acrylic on bond paper

I had fantastic visits with two extraordinary
women today, so didn't get painting until tonight.
But I've been working steadily for four hours and it's
bed time.

Here's a rapid sketch I did of an elegant British
lady who posed for us one night at our class.
She was an artist's mother, visiting from
England, and a great model. She sat in this very
proper and straight posture, dressed in lush colours.
I like the agitation in my painting. I think I was
just excited by her gutsiness.

I'm glad that this was such a good day, because
it is the anniversary of my father's death --
long ago now, and of September 11, so
it was appropriate to spend time with kind
friends, and to appreciate all that is
special about our lives.

Have a thoughtfully happy day.

  1. I tried to leave a post on the Brilliante Weblog piece...but the comment page would not load! So I will put all my comments here. First of all Thank you once again!! I am new to blogging so to have such a wonderful response from everyone is a joy indeed! The picture of Steven is a must paint!!! What a fabulous piece it will be. The portrait sketch of the British lady is fabulous. Last but not least...your writing is fabulous, funny, genuine and enriching....don't underestimate yourself!! I am honored to have an artist friend in Toronto...I drove through there several times when I was a truckdriver and was amazed at the size of the freeway...fortunately I was following a Canadian driver and he guided me through easily!! You tickle me, Barbara!!

  3. Hi Theresa,
Thanks for your thoughts. Well we
are a long way from Missouri, but
the blogs shrink that distance in a
    miraculous way.

Your work continuously astounds me. And that is so neat that I can see it, love it, and talk about great paintings with you.

I'm fairly new at blogging too, but
    so glad I started.

  4. Hi Susan,
I'm so glad I found your blog site.
the talk last Sunday was so great
because you go at your own pace,
and you make everyone feel so welcome.

I can't join you this Sunday because
I'm working to a Monday deadline, and it's a bit nuts.

Thanks for your support, and you
    are wonderful.

    Barbara
