Happy Birthday Christopher!

It's my son Christopher's birthday and he's travelling so
we can't be together. But I'll be thinking about him all
day and reliving the details of the day he was born
as I have on every birthday since the first one.

He has always been a wonderful person, since day one, and
has grown up to be a funny, kind and talented young man.
Steven and I love him so much. So we're thinking about him
and wishing him well. Christopher is somewhere in South
Asia now, and I know he's having a great time.

In the past year, partially because of his travels, and teaching
in Korea, so much has happened in my life that leads
right back to him. He was the reason I started drawing
on Skype, and he was a major help for me when I was
getting ready to appear on Oprah.

So my paintings today are paintings of Christopher. We'll
have a birthday dinner when he's back in August. But for
now I'm just delighted with him, and as always wishing
him another wonderful year, which I know he will have
because he loves life, and people, and that means he's
learned the most important lessons.

Happy Birthday Christopher

  7. Hi Barbara,
I love the portraits of your son. You have inspired me to try some of my son -if I can get him to sit still long enough (4 years old and very busy).
Your self portrait is really awesome too.

  8. Hi Roland,

Thanks so much. I can't speak for him, but I think my son is proud of me, as I am of him.

    Take care,

  9. Hi Tammy,

Maybe the best idea for your four year old is to work from photos. Or even a stopped video. What a wonderful idea, and four is a great age isn't it. I just love that age.
You must be having so much fun.

    Take care,

    Barbara

  10. Best wishes to Christopher on his birthday, and to his wonderful mom and dad!
These are all beautiful, radiant with the love for people that is one of the characteristics of your portraits!
And happy belated Canada Day: my Peter has Canadian cousins (in Toronto and Quebec), whom we absolutely love, so we always celebrate 7/1.

  11. Hi Laura,

Thanks so much. I remember you did a drawing with Ontario in the title. Living in the province of Ontario, I was shocked to find there's a city by that name in California.

We had a busy and happy Canada Day.

Thanks for your kind wishes. I hope my portraits of Christopher show my love for him. That would be
the ultimate goal. You are sweet.

    Take care,

    Barbara

  13. Seeing the three portraits together is interesting - like seeing different facets of him - actually a good idea for an exhibiton ( probably done a million times but I come to think of it just now...) I agree to what

That's what made me notice your work in the first place!

  14. Hi Laurel,

He is a beautiful guy. I like that last one too, because it was painted this year, from a photo I took of Christopher while talking to him on Skype. The conversation was a sad one, and the tenderness of his feelings for one of his friends back home (he was in Korea) is in the painting.

    XOXOXOBarbara
