Picking cherries, finishing portraits, more pie please

At the market

The painting of the lady who sells vintage quilts
and fabrics at the market is done. We may change a few
things later in the summer when I glaze it, but for now it's
gone home. Steven and I spent a celebratory hour picking
more cherries, and once they're pitted I think we have
enough for at least two more pies, probably three. I am
certainly up for some sour cherry recipes that don't involve pie
if you have them, although Steven's pies are so magnificent
that I could happily eat nothing else for a week.

The pie ready for the oven

So I'm off to get canvas. Lots more happening. It is
starting to heat up, and we are finally going to plant
our front garden. That's because I can breathe a bit
this week, and I've had time to go outside today. I
think the rest of the city says -- "well summer's over!"
the minute we plant our front garden.

The finished pie, half eaten as soon as
it's out of the oven!

Have a You-know-what?-More-Pie-please! day

  2. Wow! Barbara, it's brilliant! You have worked so hard on this and it is just fantastic. I love all of the pattern in the background. The sitter's expression is priceless. She seems to be saying so much. Full of confidence and life, happy to be with her quilts, this lady is someone you'd want to sit down with and have a good chat.

Oh, and the pie.....whoa. I can smell the scrumptious sweetness from here. Enjoy. You deserve a happy break.

  3. Hi Liza,

I wish you could too. We celebrated the painting and the pie, and it's one year since I broke my ankle, which means I must have known you for almost a year. So we had some Veuve, pricey and rare over here, and were very happy indeed. Back to the easel.

All my love to you and France! Super painting of Gananoque. What a surprise.

  4. Hi Melinda,

I just wish you could come and have some pie, stay a while, and when my client gets back from her vacation I'd take you to meet her. She is an absolute sweetheart (like you) so you'd get along wonderfully.

  8. Oh Eldon,

Thanks so much. I was thinking of you today and said Geez Louise to Steven about the weather (it was cold tonight eating on the back porch).

    You are so kind.

    Take care,

    Barbara

  9. Oh, Barbara... this painting is delicious! And then you go on to top it off with a home made cherry pie. Such abundance, such bounty, such exuberance- that's you to a T.
Thank you for sharing. (You can FedEx a piece to my home address, please.)

  10. Hi Susan,

I'm so glad you like it. We're making more pie today, but I suspect even with FedEx it wouldn't be good by the time it got to you. Then there are the border restrictions! Canadian pie going to Texas!!!! No, you'll have to hop a cheap flight up here and I'll save you some if you're coming.
