Rushing off to school

Hi Everyone,

I could not get on the internet yesterday, and phoned a kind friend
in Vancouver, right on the other side of the country for help. Thanks
Peter for being so great -- and Sarah for helping him out. Here's
the little painting I would have posted last night. It's another fall
scene based on my neighbour's front garden up the street. The
leaves are going to be all gone soon, and I have reveled in their
beauty.

Have a being-grateful-for-the-internet day.

  1. It's a beautiful painting. So full of richness and vibrancy. Your blog dedication is intimidating. LOL Wow you actually called someone on the other side of the country. I think I would have taken it as a sign and gone to be early. I know. I'm a blogging bum. heheh

  2. This painting is so dream-like and wonderful. I really, really like the blue trunks (shadowy) and the contrast with the bright yellow leaves.

I'm glad that you're back online!!

  3. Wow, Barbara. I can imagine how inspiring such gorgeous fall trees must be! I wish we could get the same majesty in our trees down here. Just another good reason to travel. :)

  4. Hi LeSan,

Thanks so much. The hardest thing about a daily blog is that. It's got to happen every day. I don't know why I insist on this with myself. I would love to post a new painting every day, but that isn't always possible. But one way and another it is possible to say something, even when technology seems ready to sabotage that discipline. Maybe that's it. I'm
not particularly disciplined. Writing a daily blog has begun to make me a bit more so.

    Take care,

    Barbara

  5. Hi Melinda,

I am inspired by your use of colour -- always rich. I don't think the tree trunks were in shadow, they could have been red just as easily, but I needed the colour to be punchy. I was working from a bad photo on a bad computer (not my glorious Mac -- but the other kind) and colour was not the primary force in my reference. But I knew in real life that image was singing with colour -- every hue of red, yellow green -- so why not blue?

  6. Hi Julie,

Yes. You do need to travel and see the fall colours. Now we're moving into November, and bit by bit the
colour is being sucked out of the landscape. This is when people who like a subtle palette rejoice, and people like me have to listen to cheery music and eat a lot of chocolate.
