prime minister in Canada, Stephen Harper
decided to prorogue our parliament. To check
out what this means follow this link.
My friend Suzanne and I went down to the local
Toronto rally to march with people who feel
the way we do that it isn't right that parliament
is not in session. Canada is a democracy and should
be governed by a democratically elected government
in session in our House of Commons. Right now no
bills can be passed, none of the work of government
can be done. And that affects every part of society,
as was evident today in who came out to march.
I did a fast drawing tonight of one of my photos from
the day. I haven't marched to protest anything since
my oldest was a baby. This was a very civilized group.
Luckily we marched at a very slow pace, and Suzanne
was there to help me if it was too much for my ankle.
But it was all worth it.
Have a keeping-your-government-democratic day.
Good for you Barbara!! I was there in spirit...the closest demo out here was hours away. Our PM is so arrogant and ill-suited for the job. Let's hope he is paying attention and get's back to work and ultimately voted out!
ReplyDeleteIl ove your sketch!! Flora xoxo
Hi Flora,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. It's funny who was out there -- business people in beautiful coats -- his constituents.
Major mistake.
Take care,
Love Barbara
You rabble rouser!! Good for you - your drawing captured the spirit of it all! XOXO
ReplyDeleteGood job, Barbara! It is so important to speak out and take a stand and your drawing is excellent.
ReplyDeleteWe can never be complacent about democracy, can we?!
Hi Laurel,
ReplyDeleteWhen you demonstrate (and I've only done so, three or four times) you feel so great at the time, and so shocked by how it's reported afterwards and minimized as unimportant. Thanks for being so supportive.
XOXOXOBarbara
Hi Melinda,
ReplyDeleteIt seems very important to some of us, and not such a big deal to others. I'm in the first camp.
I'm entranced by your recent paintings.

I wrote a post on my alternate blog Not Really A Cleaning Lady about the Massachusetts election of which I was part. I too, am watching more closely and becoming more informed. I feel the same as you, Government is 'hired' by the people to do a job, not to collect benefits and take long recesses while the people's business waits.
ReplyDeleteGood on ya, for real ;)
