I think it was Martha Stewart who taught me that
tulips continue to "grow" after you bring them home
and put them in water. I love Martha Stewart, and
now a friend gives me the magazine as a year long
gift for my birthday. We've been away the past two
weekends, and couldn't follow our usual rituals --
buying flowers for one another at one of the flower
shops on Avenue Road. So I picked up some tulips
and roses on the way home from work tonight to
cheer up the house. When I brought the bunches of
tulips in (hastily purchased at the supermarket) they
were tight buds, furled deeply inside their big boy
protective green leaves.
By the time I sat down to draw them after dinner they
were starting to emerge, and I was blown away by their
loveliness.
Have an enjoying-putting-flowers-around-your-house day.

Hi Barbara,
I love that your kitchen always has beautiful flowers.
Have a beautiful day.
Love,
Josephine
Beautiful drawing, Barbara--you certainly captured something essential here.
(At my stepdaughter's 12th birthday party, when I brought out a tray of appetizers, one her younger friends said to me, "You're a lot like Martha Stewart, but I mean that in a good way.")
I am blown away by the loveliness of your drawing, Barbara! I just LOVE your drawings!
Btw, I drew a very similar drawing about 20 years ago. I will show it to you one day...
Love your line drawings.
Hi Josephine,
Thank you. You have a beautiful day too. It is wonderful living with flowers.
Love Barbara
Hi Laura,
I'm glad you like the drawing. I wish I was a lot more like Martha Stewart, but I'm so not. Not organized, not a good cook. But she inspires me, and I used some things I saw in her magazine when we renovated our kitchen.
Take care,
Barbara
Hi Liza,
We clearly both like line drawings. Thank you so much. Yes I'd like to see that one day when I come to France. Soon I hope!

Barbara!
This illustration is a perfect example of how a simple black line can make very elegant art!
