(This is the final, final
image. They are signed, and I
took the photo with a good camera.
So off they go, and I wish them
a safe journey.)
in. My friend Jennifer Hinrichs, a brilliant artist, and
I had a show of watercolours in her house. I had never
paid to have my work framed before that show, and
she painstakingly showed me how to clean up my
work, get the pencil marks I didn't want off, decide where
to crop.
I thought of her yesterday as I was painting the edges of my
canvasses, which will be unframed in the show in New
York. It was a laborious process, but of course worth it
in the end, just as it was when we took our work to the
wonderful framer we found before our first show -- held
in her very pretty home.
Well it's on to the next thing. The paintings have gone to
be shipped, and I'm prepping my canvasses for a couple
of new commissions I start tomorrow.
Here's one last shot of the girls that I took today --
signed (by the artist) sealed and delivered. A great
feeling of relief.
Have a thanking-the-world-for-its-bounty day.
Great job...
ReplyDeleteCommission????
Hi Marian,
ReplyDeleteYes. I have a few to start on right now. That's good, because it's one way I earn my living as an artist.
Take care,
barbara
Hey Barbara,
ReplyDeleteThe paintings look great, separate and together! Congratulations.
Love,
Claudia
The girls are looking good! Wishing them and you a wonderful journey.
ReplyDeleteVirtual hugs!
Barbara, these are stunning!!! I can't believe how big they are too! When you go to New York, please post a photo of yourself standing next to them so that I can really 'know' the size.
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of you my friend! xoxo Flora
GORGEOUS, Barbara!!!
ReplyDeleteThey are absolutely beautiful. Good luck in NY

Beautiful--just a pleasure to look at. I enlarged the photo and reveled in all the shapes and colors; then pulled back and just enjoyed these sweet faces.
ReplyDeleteThe continuing horizon line through the 3 panels... postively inspired!
ReplyDeleteI never answered your question, did I? But expect you know the answer.
Wishing you the Best for your upcoming show....!
Congratulations! More beautiful ladies sent off to the world. All the women you paint seem to become world travelers!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure these three will be very well received in New York.
Way to go!
Nicki
Hi Claudia,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. And thank you for modeling for me. You are such an inspiration.
Love Barbara
Hi Melinda,
ReplyDeleteThanks so very much for all the good wishes, and kindness. Your support means so much to me. I think when this weekend is over and my paintings are off to the next show, my marks in, my flights booked, and I hope my taxes done, I will deflate like a balloon and veg on the back porch staring at my cherry tree for a whole day. -- Ah, but then I'll be so tempted to paint it!

Hi Flora,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Yep -- they are take up a very wide space indeed. I like working on the squares, because they look a bit like sculpture even before you begin to paint.
I'm so proud of you too.
XOXO Barbara
Hi Linny,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I'm so delighted that you like them. It's so great when a concept works out. I wish you could join me at the opening. Love your work.
Take care,
Barbara
Thank you Eldon, and thank you for being a wonderful blog friend to me.
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Barbara
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I am so glad you like what I'm doing. I love your work, and your appreciation means a lot to me.
Take care,
Barbara
Hi R.,
ReplyDeleteMy memory fails me, so I don't know what the questions is anymore. Ah well. I'm glad you like what I've done. Get the line straight was a challenge, but I've had a wonderful team of friends helping me with the line, with bookings, you name it.
Love your work.
Take care,
Barbara
Hi Nicki,
ReplyDeleteWell not all the women I paint go travelling. But many of the women I paint have travelled. The great thing about showing somewhere else, is that you have to go there. So how about it? Why don't you come to Florence next time?
Thanks so much for your kind encouragement. It means a great deal to me.
Keep painting. Love your work.
XOBarbara
Wow, I have loved watching the progress of these ladies and there is something so wonderful about seeing them side by side. I would love see them in person. Good luck with the NYC show and enjoy your visit as well!!! SO FUN! XOXOXO
ReplyDeleteHi Laurel,
ReplyDeleteCome on out to New York. The streets will inspire you (isn't that in a song -- it's playing over and over in my head!) I'd so love to see you there.
XOXOXOXOXOBarbara
