Artist's night off

Getting ready to go out on the town
The artist escapes her studio

I love Saturday night, and frequently lately have
worked straight through the weekend as though
it is just the same as the rest of the week.

But not tonight! We were invited to a little
dinner party at a friend's house -- also an
artist, and had a wonderful time. It has been
a super day -- grey and rainy the way April
should be, but warm and flower filled the way
May should be.

The evening was filled with the scent of flowering trees

Now it's late and I hope you've had a brilliant
Saturday doing what you love to do. I know
I have, great company, great food, superb
witty and funny conversation. Fantastic.

One of the guests built this sculpture on
the table and wanted it featured
on my blog. So here it is.

Have a loving-the-beginning-of-May day.

  1. Fun! Yes, those are the nights that must be treasured and celebrated (and be made to happen more often!) It HAS been wonderful weather here hasn't it! Barbara, I would love to meet you sometime. I hope to someday get to an opening of yours or if you're visiting here in wine region, call me up and we'll meet for a glass of wine ; )
p.s. love the colour in your hall!

  2. So true. Evenings with good friends are the best, and relationships are what life is all about! Loved the pic of you in your home, and the "sculpture" for what it connotes.....those last lingering moments of conversation with good friends and a good bottle of wine at the table, and hands playing with things on the table as you talk....

  3. Hi Kim,

I would really like that. Send me an email and my husband and I will look you up this summer. I really like your recent portraits.

    Take care,

    Barbara

  4. Hi Julie,

The fellow in one of the couples we had dinner with is extremely funny and witty, and actually he made that little sculpture just before the desert and coffee course. We photographed it a few times, then it was put away. Our conversations ranged over every topic and sometimes got quite heated, but all in good spirits.

I hope all is well with you. Your work is wonderful.

  5. How nice to have a night out... and you certainly do deserve to have an evening off! You work so hard...although I know you enjoy both your jobs; teaching and painting. It was fun to catch glimpse of your hallway!
