The big painting I've been working on journeyed home to Chelsea,
Québec today. My client came and picked up the painting first thing
this morning. It was a great approval process with my client, Pam,
extremely happy with her portrait, and her friend loved it too.
That is always a wonderful moment. I can't get enough of them.
So what's the ultimate goal? That's it. Having a satisfied client
with a portrait commission. It's also getting a likeness that pleases
the sitter, and me. And of course the ultimate goal is making
a good painting.
I'll show you more of the painting tomorrow. For now
her beautiful face is enough, and of course it was part of
my ultimate goal.

ReplyDeleteI just had to see what the ultimate goal was! If I were Pam, I would be very happy too--she's radiant; the eyes are really lovely. I think, judging from their happiness, that you radiate a little of yourself into your sitters!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad the title drew you in. Of course there is no really ultimate goal, because it's like trying to define now. The moment you know what it is, it changes. Whee. So deep tonight. I do try to infuse a portrait with the joy I feel painting it. I'm so happy that it shows.
The sitter is a very lively, joyous person.

Barbara you've really captured a radiant person here. I love your clear, sure, intentional hand which is evident in this in spades. The depth in the shadows is wonderful and the whole piece sparkles. I'm glad you gave us a close up of the face because it is where the main story is, but i love the composition you chose to place the sitter and the background 'New York' shapes colours. Great painting. I'm not surprised your client was thrilled.
