The Cake House
Acrylic on canvas

I am incredibly lucky in my work -- in art and in
teaching. In painting I have no trouble letting paintings
go for the most part. My paintings are meant to go
to new owners after they make the leap from my
mind to the canvas. But sometimes it's hard to say
goodbye to a wonderful class of students -- people
filled with ideas and humour. I know I'll see some
of them again in the halls, but all of them will move on
amid high fives and bright smiles, and I will miss them.
Here is The Cake House in what I think is its final
version. I tried to keep it loose -- the original
impression still in the work. I'll let you know whether
it's going in a new show soon.
Have an enjoying-art-and-people day.
"The cake house is cooked", has my smiling and so does your painting. It's beautiful, Barbara!
ReplyDeleteYeah, those endings can be sad sometimes but the up side is the new beginnings that follow. New beginnings here too, it's all good.
ReplyDeleteBarbara Beautiful painting! I love this, and remember it from earlier posts. As they say, "when one closes, another on opens".
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful painting--the red really appeals to me!
ReplyDeleteHi Linny,
ReplyDeleteYou can tell I don't bake -- my husband's specialty. I should have said bake I guess. Funny.
I'm delighted that you like it.

Hi Eldon,
ReplyDeleteI've missed you. I hope you are well.
I'd love to hear about the new beginnings. Well of course freedom to do nothing but paint does feel just amazing. Still -- once again today I had such great talks with departing students.
Take care,
Barbara
Hi Nancy,
ReplyDeleteIt is true. The next door is the city of New York and I'm ridiculously excited about that.
Take care,
Barbara
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. It means so much to me that you like it.
XOBarbara
Absolutely wonderful!

Hi Jill,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I'm delighted that you like it. The funny thing is that this is the back park view, and we can't find the house it belongs to on the street side. I think it has a completely different look from the front.
