For the love of houses

When you drive out to the Maritimes from
a central industrial city like Toronto, the pleasures
of getting away are many.  It's a long, long drive,
but the air gets cleaner, and cleaner the whole
way -- until you reach Moncton, New Brunswick
where it smells like clover in the summer.  But another
one of the huge anticipated treats of getting back
"home" to the Maritimes is the sighting on the
horizon of a white clapboard house standing
at the top of a hill, or in a field.  When I come
upon a bunch of sweet buildings in the classic
child's drawing house shape, I feel like a kid in
a candy shop.

Today's painting is a very loose, abstract view
of a cluster of clapboard buildings.  Mmmm.

Have a loving-your-favorite-landscape day.

  2. Wow thanks Laurel,

You made my day. Thanks, I worked on this as a little treat in the midst of trying to figure out my latest portrait. You will see a first run at that in the next blog.

I can't tell you how much your encouragement means to me.

    XOXOXOXOXOXOXBarbara

  4. I think this is a fabulous painting. The way you have had the guts to leave that foreground alone and the confidence of those big acrylic brush strokes.

  6. Hi Marcia,

You are too much. It was my break from the portrait. A vacation in paint. So many choices. Paint. The iPad. I am just trying to anchor my ADHD mind to an artistic process. Painting is the most rewarding to me.

    Glad you like it. Overjoyed.

    Love,

    Barbara

  7. Hi Sheila,

Thanks. I'm glad you call it guts. It might have been speed. In which case, more speedy guts eh? I try to learn from you. I love what you're doing.

  8. Hi Marilyn,

Summer break. It's been a very easy winter so far, but I do love the colour of summer too.

    Love your work.
