of the big painting. I thought of Saturday's child,
because of the coffee pot -- which in a hotel breakfast
in the room is one of the stars of the show -- it gets a
workout. Coffee is the dreamy part of
the hotel breakfast (well let's face it the whole meal
is the stuff romantic dreams are made of). But
if you could go to sleep at night, knowing that someone
would bring you perfect coffee in the morning, you
would sleep well. (I did last night because Steven's
ritual is to bring me coffee in bed on both Saturday
This painting has it all -- the coffee pot, ready to help
make the morning perfect -- the bed in the corner,
beckoning -- everything is there but the telephone,
to call the front desk and ask for a later departure,
and the novel you'd be sure to read after breakfast
is completed.
Yes I am having fun with this.
Have a eating-breakfast-in-a sunny-room day.
The story is as wonderful as the painting!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara - The colours are so lustrous! I love the reflection of the orange juice in the coffee pot. It's almost as if the flavours are multiplied! Beautiful piece. Mary Lou
ReplyDeleteI love this! That reflection is wonderful and the colours are great. Oh you have me in suspense waiting for it all to be joined together. Bravo Barbara!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, this is so gorgeous! What great fun you must be having. I see great things ahead for you--including more coffee in bed on the weekends.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your process with us. It is thrilling.
Warm hugs!
I saw this in the small hours of the morning and it woke me up - mesmerizing. Really beautifully painted - it's all so elegant and animated. By any chance would there be a splash of champagne in the orange juice?

Hi Elizabeth,
ReplyDeleteThank you. The story of course is the reason for the painting. It is the love story behind the story of breakfast, that makes the breakfast meaningful.
Oh that and light and colour and the workings of the universe.
XO Barbara
Hi Mary Lou,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Super writing that you are doing. Wonderful.

Hi Flora,
ReplyDeleteSam and I were analyzing parts of it tonight. Close -- very close. What a crazy pursuit, but soon the reveal -- except for the problem. How do you photograph something soooo big.
Ah and yes. This is just the beginning. Could one go bigger. Love your recent work. Lovely.
XO Barbara
Hi Melinda,
ReplyDeletePerhaps not this weekend unless I get up at 7. Hey. Good idea. Two shows on Saturday. But that's all good. I'll put the invite on tomorrow.
Thank you for your superb encouragement, and for the inspiration I get looking at your work, and for the thought of warm temperatures.

Hi Marcia,
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh. Yes there could be champagne in that orange juice. I don't think there was at the time, because the orange juice was working so hard being the subject for a painting, but there would be perhaps on Christmas day, or if a certain Hamilton artist came to town. Yes.
Love that you've figured out how to do smiley faces. Me and Emoticons! Don't get me started.:)
Love,
Barbara
Barbara, this is stunning! I love it, the elements all dance with one another! You are on a roll with this one, it's exciting.
ReplyDeletemaybe you can take the whole thing outside to photograph it...stand on a ladder, look down on it, and snap...? your son is a photographer i'm sure he'll help ya! Your enthusiasm and excitement making this painting is infectious and wonderful.
It's wonderful, Barbara - such an accomplishment! (I'm at your show in spirit.)
ReplyDeleteHappy coffee in bed tomorrow morning!
(Recently watched a Hockney video for another of his large installations - most interesting.)
