Hi everyone. What does a portrait painter say, whena client wants a painting of a building? In my case
she says, "Yes!" So when I was asked to paint this
factory I was on the case.
When I was working on it I had a good talk with my
friend Kim Rempel. Talking about the cars, I said
that painting cars is like painting apples. And I
must say I really enjoyed painting the cars in this one.
My internet connections in the next few weeks will be
sporadic, so please forgive me for not commenting
on your blog, if I don't get to it for a while. I'll do
my best in cafés along the way.
Thank you to my delightful client for this one. You
were so much fun.
Have a moving-out-of-your-comfort-
zone-and-liking-it day.

Holy smokes! This is awesome! I was dying to see this piece. You did a wonderful portrait of this building. They must be thrilled. And really, I still don't get how cars are like apples to you - I would think they would be a NIGHTMARE to paint. But you pulled it off brilliantly. And excellent windows my friend : )
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI think I explained that for some reason your comments are being filtered -- how upsetting. Please keep commenting. I'll check more often now that I know it's happening.
No cars are fun, and they are like apples. Actually saying that to you has been helping me paint everything. Now I'm saying hands are like apples. David Lobenberg has a good piece on that. I guess it's the abstraction (something you do so exceptionally well) that helps.
XOXO (hope to talk to you soon) Barbara
