More New York Thoughts

Another cold Saturday.  A perfect day
for staying in and reading a long, long,
novel.  I am on page 1500 at the smallest
font on my iPad of a saga checked
out on the Toronto Library website,
and wondering -- when the book will end.

In my reading breaks I am dreaming of
spring.  I'm sure I'm not alone in that.
Today's drawing is of the mother who
is holding the baby I drew the other day.
Drawing her dark, dark fall of hair with
a fine, black marker I realized that I
could spend a few more hours on it to
get the right rich contrast.

When I took the picture in a brief moment
in a day filled with museums -- both The
Cloisters and The Met, I didn't realize how
cool her haircut was.  The baby was so
captivating and the mother shy and proud.
It makes me happy to see her more
completely now.

    Another lovely portrait ... you bring out the sweetness in people!
    Love your line work--the patterning is very energetic, but structured at the same time.
    The Met and the Cloisters in one day, oh my!

    Hi Laura,

    Thank you. I think this woman is pretty sweet. The way she looked at her baby told me all I need to know. And her husband was sweet too.

    Yes that was quite the day. There were so many people at the Met, where we went after the cloisters, that the taxi had to let us off a couple of blocks away, and we ran over, dashed in and saw as much as we could.

    Hi Sally,

    Thank you. I was working from a really big blow up of her face -- 11 x 17 inches I think, and it was a grainy image -- from an imperfect shot on my cell phone. I am so glad it turned out well, because I love her expression.
