I'm just playing with you!

I wish that was true.  Painting is play, but
sometimes it's also pretty serious.  When
I went to bed last night, I was not happy with
with the white tablecloth background -- then I dreamt
of a great solution.  Although somewhat abstract
this painting is about a real meal, the disarray on
the table was how it really was -- this is the romance
of two people in the middle of breakfast.

But the colour was not working.  So I decided to put
a cloth that wasn't there into the painting -- voila
-- the blue.  I'm happy with it so far, but it may become
a runner and go from one end of the painted table
to the other.  I'll keep you on the scene.

Have a working-on-playing-with-art day.

Like you talked about in a previous post, nothing dictates the painting but you and your decisions. looks like this decision was a good one, it's exciting.

Oh Barbara, another stunning painting is being born! I love how you paint, the colours you choose, the detail in the work and the story behind it.
Thanks for sharing the 'artist problem-solving' behind it.
Every brushstroke and decision informs the next.

I like the blue! I also really like the lower right corner of the table with its loose white-red pattern. Appeals to my abstract-loving nature, hehee.

Enjoy the process & thanks for sharing!

Hi Sally,

Thank you. I was going to ask my blog friends to help me decide how far to go with the blue, but you are right, I should listen to myself and to you. The blue stays, but it may grow!

XOXOXOXOXO Barbara

Hi Flora,

Thank you so much, I've been painting all night in a kind of trance. (I think it's called exhaustion). I wasn't sure what I was doing, I just was, and
everything seemed to go so well. It goes to show you -- you never know.

Love your work.

XOXOXOXOXO Barbara

Hi Verna,

Thank you so much. I'm keen on the pink and white corner too. Sometimes I wonder if I
hold onto a first thought out conceptmor decision out of nostalgia. But I do like that corner too. I like the contrast between realist and that.
It may stay!

XOXOXOXOXOXO Barbara
