Bad week for artists on the net, and what gives me hope

It's a bad week for my blogger friends, artists on
Facebook, and artists on the net,  because
Wallpart.com has stolen images, and is selling
posters of the work of most of my artist
friends.  Please sign the petition by
clicking here, and help reverse this situation.

The young woman I'm painting now is
certainly a reason for hope for the future.
She is a valiant worker for important causes,
and has worked since she graduated with her
masters 5 years ago in government, advocating
for women's involvement, and women's rights
in Canada.

I am still a long way from finishing this painting,
but I thought I'd show you the current stage.  This
is stage 4 or 5 and is where I'm at.  I just miss you
too much when I don't blog.

Have a stopping-the-rip-off-artists-and-enjoying-hope day.

  1. Nice to see what you're working on...it's looking good. I hope we can shut down Wallpart. It is very disappointing to find mine and many artists friends work on there. I have never 'watermarked' my art when I post, which I'm told leaves it open for these sort of scam/scheme. I hope by signing the petition it will help to shut it down.

  2. Hi Barbara,

I really like these portraits with the horizontal line of colour across them! Nice abstract compositional element, adds dynamic to the work. And you sure do paint some interesting people.

Yeah, it does really suck when artists' works are reproduced without permission or compensation. Shame on Wallpart. I hope the situation is quickly and properly redressed. The petition's got one more signature on it now.

  3. It is always interesting to see your process Barbara. This will be a great painting.

Yes, this Wallpart site is creepy and stealing from artists... and anyone else who has posted images on the net. I have signed the petition, I hope others do and that it works.

  4. Hi Sally,

I think they've even taken watermarked work. And
apparently taken it from blogs, Facebook, Instagram,
you name it! Yes I hope they get shut down soon.
I'm glad you like my portrait so far.

    XOXOXOXOXOXO Barbara

  5. Hi Verna,

I don't know that that horizontal line will
stay, I'm just thinking in paint for the
moment. So yes I do paint interesting people.
    People inspire portraits. How about
you? I'd love to paint you sometime.
    You are another inspiring woman.

    XOXOXOXOXO Barbara

awe in me. So awesome, and you

  7. Barbara, I checked into Wallpart and lo and behold they have at least a dozen of my images along with some from artists in my Girls Just Wanna Paint blog.

I signed into the site and reported violations where they allow you to post them.

Thieves from some eastern european country judging from the text on some of the pages.

    thanks for alerting us!

  8. Hi Barbara,

it's great to see your work-in-progress. Your portraits are all so original and captivating.
I don't understand why companies aren't shut down IMMEDIATELY simply on the strength of operating illegally. You would think that normal laws would apply on the internet without requiring a petition.

I look forward to seeing your finished portrait Barbara!

Hope all is well with you.
