Wow! What's Happening? -- come out to Super Wonder Gallery on Friday and Saturday this week and see!



I am immensely impressed with the curator who designed
the figurative show I was in before I went to Florence
and Paris -- Daniel Anaka.  When I heard that he was
curating an abstract show Rorschach, opening this week, I wanted
to be part of it. The openings are on this Friday November
20th and Saturday, November 21st from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at
the Super Wonder Gallery, 876 Bloor Street West, just west of
Ossington.

And hurray my paintings have been accepted! I'll be exhibiting
two 3 ft x 4 ft. black and white abstract paintings in the show.
A complete departure for me.  Have I been influenced
by the artists I met in Florence? I'd have to say yes,
but more importantly I really like the artists that
Daniel Anaka attracts to his shows, and Daniel's wit,
sense of humour and no nonsense, honest approach.  Plus
he throws a super great party, and we artists and collectors
need that.

The group Tokka with Dr. Eugene Draw, famous
electronic violinist, will be playing at the openings,
on Friday and Saturday night.

Have I gone abstract?  No -- not forever.  I am
just adding that possibility to my affection for
portraits, still life, and landscape.  And for me
it's been a happy addition.

Come and see!  I know you'll enjoy yourself.

    Hi Laurel,

    Thank you so much. I was certainly inspired by the
    wonderful art I saw at the Florence Biennale, and
    also by the curator, Daniel Anaka. All art has an
    element of the abstract -- and it's not that much of
    a jump between ocean, cloud scenes and this -- although they
    look completely different.:-)

    Very strong, and such a departure for you, but it is so exciting! I wish I could see them in the super wonder gallery(Great name!) but alas I wont be anywhere near Toronto. It's really great to be filled with inspiration, and obviously your trip to Florence provided it. Well done Barbara!

    Hi Sally,

    Thank you. I was inspired by the work of my fellow artists
    in Florence, and then felt like a tea bag steeped in the amazing
    art in Paris. Having been to the Uffizi in Florence, and then the Musée D'Orsay,
    and the Petit Palais and the Musée Marmottan Monet, I felt like
    I'd been in a quick, intense university course in art.

    You can imagine that I felt very, very sad about the attacks on Paris.
    For an artist that does feel like an attack on the world. This joyous
    show will be a wonderful reminder that the best of life goes on.

    Hi Verna,

    Thank you so much. It is an excellent theme. Everyone says I'm the only one that followed the theme, but I don't think that's true! There's another opening tomorrow night, and I'll have to check it out. What most artists have done is echo some element in one work in the next as far as I can see. It is a really good show.

    Great idea for a show and I can understand being inspired by this theme. Your abstract paintings are certainly full of energy. Is there a hidden message in them somewhere?
    I want to thank you for your generous comments and also for taking the time to comment all the way from Florence. What an amazing experience for you! And so much great art. It seems that my life has become so busy with 10 hour days in the studio, I need to find a way to slow down and enjoy other elements of life, like attending some great art shows. Maybe after the One Of A Kind I will look at a new direction.

    Hi Catherine,

    Thank you so much. Actually if there's a hidden message, I don't know
    what it is. I was looking at black and white paintings thinking
    about abstract design, and then drew one on my iPad that I liked
    the look of in mirror image, and it went from there.

    My son says they say "S" for Sam, some people have said they are treble
    clefs. As with so much abstract art, they were both planned, and then
    happened. It's been fun seeing the reaction. People have really liked
    them. I absolutely love your work Catherine. You capture a Toronto
    I love.
